  Theatre Based Communication Skill Building  
       
    Local theatre groups and community based resource groups are trained to conceptualise and implement awareness campaigns using entertainment and culture based approaches.  
       
  Around 15 groups of college youth as well as interested men and women from the community at Goa were trained to stage theatre shows in Konkani and Hindi to mobilise people to stop sex tourism and trafficking as part of Unifem’s initiatives to reduce vulnerabilities of women and children .  
  Kalajatha groups in Udaipur who typically perform for three four hours were trained in developing theatre productions of 20-30 minutes to disseminate information on HIV/AIDS and carea and support services as part of CHARCA project.  
  Hyderabad : Building local capacity for creating awareness on STI using Theatre.
STI increases the risk of HIV/AIDS. PSI is undertaking an intensive theatre based campaign in Andhra Pradesh targeting coverage of 35 towns across 16 districts. We are training local theatre performers and youth to form resource groups who will conduct street theatre shows. Workshop specialists are using 'Theatre in Development' methodologies to build communication skills as well as life skills like memory, concentration etc. .
 
  At Choruigachi village in North 24 Parganas, peer group of adolescent girls working with Bhoruka Public Welfare Trust were trained to mobilize public involvement in prevention of human trafficking using street theatre as a tool (August 2005).  
 
In Nov 2004, Local groups in Kishanganj, Bihar were trained in interactive theatre based campaigns for building awareness on HIV/AIDS (CHARCA, a UN Project).
 
 
During 2002-2004, inter personal communicators of PSI in Vaizag, Tuticorin, Goa, Kochi and Paradwip ports were trained on using theatre for building awareness on HIV/AIDS.
 
  Since 2002, resource groups for Jute service centres in different parts of India like Guwahati, Gangtok, Agartala, Dimapur, Bhopal, Bangalore, Warangal were trained on interactive theatre techniques.  
 
In May-June 2004, local youth clubs in resistant areas of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal performed theatre shows and took leadership in mobilising parents to take came forward to take their children for Pulse Polio immunization.
 
 
Since 2003, peer groups at Purba Medinipur, Murshidabad, Cooch Bihar, South 24 Parganas have been trained to hold theatre shows to promote use of sanitary latrines and inculcate healthy behaviour.
 
  In 2003, members of Eco-Development Committee and local NGO in Sajnekhali in Sundarban were trained to build awareness on biosphere conservation and wildlife protection.  
  In 2003-2004, local youth enacted shows to build awareness on benefits of quality 24-hour electricity supply and energy conservation in villages in Greater Noida, UP.  
  In September – October 2003, child labourers in Kolkata slums enacted shows to sensitise their neighbours to give them opportunity to pursue studies in special schools.
